Gaby López stays in the top 10, Isabella Fierro drops to 50th at Mayakoba
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, May 2, 2026 — Although it was her most difficult day so far at the second Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, Mexican player Gaby López managed to remain in the top 10 after the third round played at El Camaleón Golf Course.
The Mexico City native finished with a score of 73, one over par, bringing her three-round total to 212, four under par. Gaby recorded six consecutive bogeys between holes 5 and 10, although she had a strong finish on the back nine with five birdies on holes 2, 13, 14, 17, and 18, to end the day in 10th place overall, three spots lower than the previous day.
“I played well on one half of the course, the other half I didn’t play well. I had good shots, one that was very aggressive, I think the face closed a bit and I went into the water. But I fought until the end, I’m not going to give up. Whatever the result is, I will give everything I have.
“I’m very happy to stay calm in the middle of the round despite the bad shots. In the end, this is a marathon, the tournament doesn’t end until hole 72. Golf can tell you today that it’s your best friend and tomorrow not, and vice versa. That attitude of always fighting and always moving forward is the most important thing. There are still holes left and I’m going to give my best,” said the top Mexican golfer of recent years.
Meanwhile, Yucatán native Isabella Fierro was unable to repeat her strong second-round performance and finished over par in this round. Fierro signed for a 74, two over par, and now totals 219 (+3), placing her in 50th position in the overall standings.
Although she made four birdies on holes 8, 9, 13, and 14, she also recorded four bogeys, including a double bogey on 16, which affected her overall score.
“The key to making a good score is playing the par 5s very well, but this course can challenge you in different ways. I kept my head in a good place; it’s a course where you have to accept that mistakes will happen. You have to stay very present and aware of that. My caddie and I did a good job out there. I feel satisfied, I feel happy, and now it’s time to keep working.
“I’m very happy, a little emotional that the tournament is coming to an end. We only have one tournament a year in Mexico, so I want to enjoy it as much as possible,” said Isabella, who once again thanked the fans, especially the children who followed her during the round and, in particular, her family.
