Alila, an opportunity to reconnect with yourself

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, May 2, 2026 — Alila Mayakoba stands as the new ultra-luxury retreat within the complex, currently serving as host to the international stars competing in the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. Opened in February as the brand’s first property in Latin America, the resort was designed to offer a transformative experience that mirrors the essence of Mayakoba.

Patrick Schori, general manager of Alila, spoke about what it means for the resort to host the world’s top golfers.

“Alila is a brand that offers a multidimensional experience; we embody the environment, the local culture, and above all, the Mayan heritage. We want our guests not just to stay, but to achieve a deep reconnection with themselves through an authentic immersion in the destination.”

Having LPGA Tour players as guests “has been incredible, in the sense that our property sits right next to holes 3 and 4. So having that connection with the course—and like El Camaleón itself, our hotel embodies its surroundings. Just as hole 7 features an iconic cenote, our lobby is also a cenote that welcomes guests. We bring the geography of the course into the hotel’s narrative, making the tournament experience and the stay a single sensory journey.”

For Schori, hosting an event of this caliber also promotes empowerment in sports: “Supporting women’s sports aligns with our philosophy of holistic wellness and personal growth. We aim to create spaces where people can reach their best version.”

In the coming weeks, Mayakoba will also welcome the Uruguay national team, which has chosen the destination as its base for the 2026 World Cup in North America—something Schori believes will elevate the destination even further. “It’s fantastic to have Uruguay here. I understand they have a very exciting match in the early stage of the World Cup [against Spain at Akron Stadium on June 26], and being their training base makes us very proud. It truly elevates the destination. Having the LPGA and the Uruguay national team here within a six-month span is incredible.”

Schori added that the golfers have expressed how comfortable they feel at Alila. “They really enjoy the experience here because the entire property is surrounded by nature and connected through the mangroves. They like that they can bike anywhere—it’s very flat—even getting to the golf course.”

The brand’s message reflects an inclusive sophistication: “Alila is a space for anyone seeking silence, introspection, and an honest, robust culinary offering. Here, luxury is the opportunity to discover something new about yourself.”
