Banamex clients get tips from a champion

Mayakoba, Quintana Roo, May 22, 2025.– Lorena Ochoa offered a clinic to Banamex clients as part of the MEXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, held at the Driving Range of the El Camaleón course.

In a very relaxed atmosphere, 25 people received some tips to improve their game from the former world number one in women’s golf for three years.

Always friendly, Lorena answered very specific questions, in addition to recalling moments that made her grow and improve her game.

One of the most important pieces of advice she gave them was to have the mentality to improve, to identify where they are failing because then they will know what they need to work on.

She explained, “Make a plan with three balls, but put intention in each one, so that there is an idea of what you are doing,” she explained, and she added that you should try to place each of those balls in a specific place.

She also offered tips on how to hit in a way that the wind does not affect so much, as well as how to grab the right club and hit a flat swing, a stroke that, she said, made her win many tournaments.

Lorena recalled her “tragedy” in the 2005 US Open Championship, where she went from being the leader to being one step away from the title when she scored eight strokes on the 18th hole. “On the fourth day I was comfortable, my family was there, the sponsors were there, I was doing well, in first place, hole 16 well, hole 17 the same and on the 18th eight strokes… but thank God I did not win, I was not ready for fame, for everything that was to come. However, it was a lesson from which I learned a lot and when I won I was ready”, she recalled.

She offered advice that, in addition to golf, can be applied in life, such as “listening to your inner voice to make important decisions”. She recalled that she cut her relationship with her caddie Lance Bennett because he transmitted insecurity, even though other people advised her to give him another chance.

“Besides, you have to accept that there are mistakes and give them the right proportion,” he recommended. You have to take everything in the right proportion.

She suggested that amateurs dedicate an hour to the practice of this sport, but in quality time, that they know what they are going to do, not enter without a definite plan.

At the end, Lorena gave copies of her book “Soñar en grande” to the attendees, who applauded her and thanked her for having had the advice of a champion.
