Ahead of the LPGA at Mayakoba, a New Version of Isabella Fierro:More Relaxed, More Self-Aware

  • Mayakoba will witness Isabella’s resurgence
  • The Yucatán native challenging the world’s best on home soil

Mérida, Yucatán, February 27, 2026. – Isabella Fierro is about to begin a new season on the LPGA Tour after regaining her card last year following a strong campaign on the Epson Tour.

While she never sets numerical goals for herself, this year she hopes to stay healthy and injury-free, establish herself on the LPGA Tour, secure her card for next season, and move a step closer to qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

One of the biggest challenges for the Yucatán native, who currently resides in Mérida, will be competing in the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba at El Camaleón Golf Course for the second consecutive year.

This year’s tournament will feature World No. 2 Nelly Korda and Olympic champion Lydia Ko (Paris 2024). Drawing from the lessons of her performance last year—when she missed the cut—Fierro explains how she plans to approach the event, scheduled for April 30 through May 3.

“You have to respect the golf course—that’s extremely important. The best players in the world are coming, and I feel that gives me an extra push to give my very best. But at the end of the day, I treat it like any other tournament. The preparation is exactly the same. I’ll rest the same, I’ll eat the same, but we have the advantage of it being a course I already know—where you need to understand the wind and be very patient if the putts aren’t dropping. It’s a course that plays differently in the morning because there’s less wind, and in the afternoon there’s a lot more wind,” she explained.

For that reason, she will try to keep things simpler this time around. “Being more relaxed will be important for me.”

One area she aims to improve this year is taking care of her mental health. “I feel that’s the most important thing, especially protecting my essence. Once you reach the tour, it’s very easy to compare yourself to others—to the best in the world—and you can start to lose your identity. So, who is Isabella? What makes her Isabella every day off the golf course? And most importantly, which Isabella do I want to reflect every single day? That’s like my daily mantra—what kind of person do I want to reflect? How do I feel? Who am I? Because in the end, how I feel is what I project.”

Isabella’s current team includes Horacio Morales as her overall golf coach; Janet Alexander, her Australian strength and conditioning coach who lives in San Diego; and Eugenio Lizama, a Chilean sports psychologist based in Miami. She is also represented by her agent Gustavo Santoscoy García, while her sister Renata oversees planning and finances.

It is a team she trusts blindly, knowing they will tell her when she is doing things wrong—not just what she wants to hear.

When she is in Mérida, Isabella’s training days begin at 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. At 5:00 p.m., she takes a 40-minute break for a meal, followed by one hour and 40 minutes at the gym, and by 9:00 p.m. she is already asleep. “That’s Monday through Saturday. I take one day off—either Sunday or Monday—and I do absolutely nothing related to golf. Writing in my journal, watching a series I like, walking on the beach—whatever helps me disconnect and let my mind rest,” she revealed.
