Korda, happy after a perfect week in “paradise”
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, May 3, 2026.- Nelly Korda showed her professionalism by arriving with determination at El Camaleón course to claim the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba trophy, just one week after winning the Chevron Championship.
The American described her week on the challenging Greg Norman-designed course as “perfect,” and revealed her desire to return next year.
“I think it was a perfect week. I’ve been here on vacation and now to compete. I think it was a perfect week after a Major. I felt super relaxed, but I knew I had to push and that I was here to work. It’s like a piece of paradise, the resorts are incredible, the food is amazing. I have to say I’m ‘tacoed out.’ I won’t touch a taco for at least two weeks—I’ve had too many,” Korda admitted.
Nelly made it clear that she arrived at Mayakoba with the intention of winning, as she does in every tournament. “That’s the main goal. Sometimes you fall short of winning, but that’s always very motivating for me. In sports, of course, you want to reach the top, but there’s also something about losses that teaches you a lot and makes you very grateful for moments like this that allow me to be here [as champion], because not many people see what happens behind closed doors—the frustration after a tough week.”
The golfer thanked her entire team, the same one she has worked with since her second year on the LPGA Tour, and that has supported her through both good and bad moments.
Korda’s next stop on the Tour will be the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G, which she says she will approach with confidence after back-to-back victories. “Right now, the only thing I’m focused on is getting to my flight, going home, taking a couple of days off, and then getting back to practice,” she said.
