Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, April 14, 2026.—The countdown to the second edition of the MÉXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba has begun. With less than a month to go before the international competition, anticipation is building.
The stop at El Camaleón Golf Club has generated significant interest due to the participation of major LPGA Tour stars, including American Nelly Korda, New Zealander Lydia Ko, and Russian Nataliya Guseva, as well as Mexicans Gaby López, Isabella Fierro, Clarisa Temelo, and María Fassi.
Joining this competitive field is Colombian María José Marín, who arrives as one of the tournament’s most intriguing international invitees, further strengthening the Latin American presence.
The MÉXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba will be held from April 30 to May 3. The tournament, the only LPGA event in Latin America, is sponsored by RLH Properties, GS Sports Management, and the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ). The tournament not only attracts the world’s best female golfers but also builds an ecosystem where sports, investment, and lifestyle converge. It will feature 144 players, who will play 72 holes over the four days of competition and compete for a prize purse of $2.5 million.
With a 20-year legacy as a host of top-tier international tournaments (PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and now LPGA), El Camaleón has perfected logistics with surgical precision. This operational capacity allows the destination to manage the complexity of an elite tournament with the same excellence with which it hosts massive concerts by stars like Luis Miguel or high-end corporate events, ensuring a flawless experience for players and attendees.
“Bringing the LPGA Tour to Mayakoba isn’t just about adding another event; it’s about opening the door to a new narrative: Mexico as a hub for international golf at its most sophisticated” (…) “This tournament not only showcases the level of world-class golf, but also highlights Mexican talent to global audiences,” emphasized Gustavo Santoscoy, CEO of GS Sports Management.
And the field supports that narrative.
“At RLH Properties, our vision is to establish Mayakoba as the international sports hub par excellence, where strategic investment in sports infrastructure merges with ultra-luxury hospitality. “Hosting the MÉXICO Riviera Maya Open in Mayakoba for the second consecutive year reaffirms our commitment to positioning Mexico as a world-class destination, capable of attracting the most discerning audiences on the planet and generating a positive impact on the region’s economy,” said Luis Durán, CEO of RLH Properties, the group that owns Mayakoba.
Korda and Ko will be making their debut on this challenging course. Nelly Korda, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, an Olympic champion, and a multiple LPGA Tour winner, claimed victory a few weeks ago at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando, a tournament that marked the start of the 2026 season. That was the 16th title of Nelly’s career, which includes two Majors.
Gaby López will be the tournament’s main host. Recently the top Mexican player on the LPGA Tour, she finished fifth at the Fortinet Founders Cup in Menlo Park, California—her best result of the season—and achieved her highest-ever ranking at No. 29 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, so she will arrive highly motivated.
In 2025, the MÉXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba marked the LPGA’s return to the country, organized by GS Sports Management. In addition to the competition, the event will offer a variety of activities designed for visitors and fans, including: hospitality and dining areas, fan activities, and interactive experiences; special events during tournament week, and the traditional PRO-AM, where guests and celebrities share the course with professional players.
The LPGA’s return to Mexico marks a turning point not only for golf but also for the country’s positioning on the map of high-level international events.
In Mayakoba, sports serve as a vehicle for branding and help shape Mexico’s global image as a premier destination, where every swing reinforces its position as a leader in hospitality and world-class event organization.
