Gaby López finishes as top Mexican in 20th, Isabella closes strong in 27th

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, May 3, 2026 — With a very challenging final round, carding a 73 (+1), Gaby López wrapped up her participation in the second edition of the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba as the top Mexican player, finishing with a total of 285 (-3) to place 20th overall.

The Mexico City native had a solid start with birdies on holes 2 and 4, but then struggled with five bogeys on holes 6, 10, 13, 14, and 16. Still, she showed resilience down the stretch, adding birdies on 17 and 18.

“Even though I didn’t have my best performance this weekend, I gave it my all. It’s a very energy-demanding round, and it was tough to recover today. I just didn’t strike the ball exactly how I wanted. I started very well, then a couple of bogeys got stuck in the middle of the round, but overall I feel calm with the energy I bring and the heart I put into every shot,” said López, who added that the crowd’s support and positive atmosphere make playing in Mexico truly special.

“It really excites me to see so many kids on the course. I think they make the difference. No matter what I shoot, whether I win or not, this is a marathon in 2026—there are still many tournaments ahead. Without a doubt, my favorite moment was making birdie on 18. Having the crowd there, making an eagle and three birdies on that hole this week with everyone supporting me was very special,” she added.

Meanwhile, Isabella Fierro delivered a strong finish in the fourth and final round, posting a 67 (-5) to complete the tournament with an impressive total of 286 (-2).

The Yucatán native had a brilliant start with birdies on holes 11, 12, 13, and 17, along with two more on holes 5 and 8, offset by a lone bogey on the final hole. She capped off a standout week, improving on her 2025 performance, where she missed the cut.

“I had a very consistent round. I stayed in my bubble and really enjoyed myself, I was very present throughout the round. There wasn’t much wind early on, so we were able to attack the pins well from the start, and we read the putts really well. In the second part, things cooled off a bit, but we knew there were still opportunities and that we had to stay patient. In the end, the result was very good,” said Fierro, who will travel to Las Vegas to try to compete in an Epson Tour event next week.

Among other Latin American players, the best finisher was 19-year-old Colombian María José Marín, the recent historic champion of the 2026 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, who confirmed her strong form by finishing fifth overall at El Camaleón with a final-round 69 (-3) for a total of 280 (-8).

Paraguay’s Sofía García finished inside the top 20, tied with Gaby López at 285 (-3), while Ecuador’s Daniela Darquea closed with a total of 296 (+8).
