Balcázar and Lira to Play in the Monday Qualifier

Mayakoba, Quintana Roo, April 13, 2025 – Mexican golfers María Balcázar and Fernanda Lira secured spots in the Monday qualifier for the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba after finishing as the top two players in the qualifying event held on April 30 in Punta Mita, in collaboration with XUNTAS.

Seven golfers competed for two spots in the Monday qualifier, which will take place on May 19 at Mayakoba.

Balcázar finished in first place, followed by Lira in second, and Andrea Ostos in third.

It’s important to note that if María Fassi qualifies directly into the main tournament (without needing a sponsor exemption), Balcázar would take her place in the main field with that invitation, Lira would retain her spot in the May 19 qualifier, and Andrea Ostos would also be eligible to compete in that qualifier.

So far, Gaby López, Isabella Fierro, and Clarisa Temelo (the latter two through sponsor exemptions) have already secured spots in the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba.

María Balcázar, born in 1998, became the first professional golfer from Chiapas.

Fernanda Lira, 29, has one Epson Tour victory since joining the circuit in 2019. In 2021, she won the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.

XUNTAS is a female-founded and women-led community focused on the comprehensive development of emerging amateur and professional golfers.
