Isabella Fierro shines and makes the cut in Mayakoba

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, May 1, 2026.– With an outstanding second round of 68 (-4), Isabella Fierro secured her place for the final two rounds at El Camaleón, becoming the second Mexican player—alongside Gaby López—to make the cut at the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba.

The Mérida native delivered a superb performance, recording birdies on holes 11, 13, 17, 3, 5, and 8, with just two bogeys on 18 and 9. Fierro avoided elimination with a total score of 145 (+1) after two rounds, climbing an impressive 55 spots from her first-round position to sit in provisional 49th place. It marks her second made cut of the LPGA season.

“It was a really good round—I had so much fun, but most importantly, I was myself. It’s rare that it comes out like that, and my psychologist and I have worked a lot on recognizing that essence. Today my job wasn’t even to make birdies or make the cut—it was to be myself and give my all on every shot. I did that, and the result was very good,” she said.

Fierro added that this performance gives her confidence heading into the weekend rounds. “I don’t control the results, I don’t control how others play, and I don’t control the weather. But I do control how I prepare every day and what happens in my mind. It’s been a long process, and there’s still a lot to work on.”

The other seven Mexican players were eliminated after failing to make the cut. María Fassi was unable to replicate last year’s performance; after a second-round 74 (+2) and a total of 149 (+5), she finished tied for 87th.

Alejandra Llaneza placed 93rd with a total of 150 (+6) after a 77 (+5) in the second round. Ana Juárez finished 103rd at 152 (+8).

Tied for 105th at 154 (+10) were María Balcázar and Clarisa Temelo. Andrea Ostos ended 111th at 155 (+11), while Carolina Rotzinger dropped to 121st at 164 (+20).

American player Briana Chacón, of Mexican heritage, finished 98th with 151 (+7), also missing the cut.
