Charley Hull Joins Player Field for LPGA Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba
The British golfer is expected to be one of the top players to watch at the upcoming LPGA Riviera Maya Open, to be held at the award-winning El Camaleón golf course in Mayakoba from May 22–25.
QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO (April 16, 2025) — The world-renowned luxury golf and resort destination Mayakoba has announced that British golf star Charley Hull has confirmed her participation in the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba this May, set to take place at the iconic El Camaleón course. Ranked 10th in the LPGA Tour rankings as of April 14, Hull has secured two major professional victories: The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America (2022) and the CME Group Tour Championship (2016). Last year, Hull represented Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and was a member of the European Solheim Cup Team, making her one of the most anticipated participants in the Riviera Maya Open field.
“I always prefer a course that challenges me with longer and more difficult holes, so I’m especially excited to test my skills at El Camaleón,” said Hull. “With the LPGA Tour’s record-breaking schedule this year, I’m looking forward to competing at the Riviera Maya Open as one of the key events of the season.”
Hull joined the LPGA Tour in 2015 and was named Rookie of the Year that same season. She has nearly 40 top-10 finishes in her career and has also enjoyed success on the Ladies European Tour, where she holds four victories. In the 2025 season, she has played in four events, including the Founders Cup presented by the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she finished 19th, and the HSBC Women’s World Championship, where she placed 4th.
The LPGA Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba marks the return of the LPGA Tour to Mexico after an eight-year hiatus and is part of the tour’s record-setting 2025 calendar. Nestled within 595 acres of pristine Mayakoba landscape, El Camaleón has long served as a trailblazing golf destination in Mexico and now becomes the first and only course in the world to host events from the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, LPGA, AJGA, and LACC.
Hull joins Gaby López and 142 other LPGA players in the tournament, which will feature a $2.5 million prize purse.
Gustavo Santoscoy Arriaga, president of GS Sports Management, the company responsible for bringing the LPGA back to Mexico, commented:
“Charley Hull’s presence on Mexican soil is proof of the trust that top players place in the organization of the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. We know her quality, and it guarantees a spectacle worthy of our fans’ expectations.”
Gustavo Santoscoy García, CEO of GS Sports Management, added:
“We are committed to organizing world-class sporting events. Mexico has established itself as an ideal destination for international competitions. That commitment is not only recognized by fans, but by athletes themselves, which is why we have such talented players eager to experience Mexico as a host nation.”
Luis Durán, CEO of RLH Properties, the ownership group behind Mayakoba, said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Charley Hull to the LPGA Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. Her incredible talent and passionate fan base will undoubtedly make her one of the players to watch this May. We look forward to seeing how she takes on the challenges of El Camaleón.”
At the start of 2024, El Camaleón completed a year-long renovation project, including a full clubhouse transformation and redesign of several championship holes led by golf course designer and legend Greg Norman. The upgrades aimed to create a more challenging playing environment, with new bunker elevations, longer tee boxes, a revamped green on hole 8, and a new island green on the scenic oceanfront hole 4.
El Camaleón has been ranked among Mexico’s best golf courses by Golf Digest and one of the Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World by GOLF magazine. Weaving through Mayakoba’s unique ecosystems—including lush jungle, mangroves, freshwater canals, and the pristine Riviera Maya coastline—the course is considered one of the most diverse in the world, offering a wide variety of shot options to test players’ skills.
