How did the Latin American players perform at the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba?

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, April 30, 2026.– In addition to the nine Mexican players in the field, four other Latin American golfers teed off this Thursday at the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba.

The best-placed among them after the opening round was Paraguay’s Sofía García, who posted a 70 (-2) to sit in a tie for 17th place. García recorded birdies on holes 5, 10, 13, 17, and 18, along with bogeys on holes 7, 9, and 12.

Colombia’s María José Marín finished tied for 27th with a round of 71 (-1). The amateur player made birdies on holes 7, 13, and 18, but dropped shots with bogeys on holes 2 and 9.

Ecuador’s Daniela Darquea ended the round with a 75 (+3), placing her in a tie for 85th. Her scorecard included five birdies, six bogeys, and one double bogey.

Puerto Rico’s María Torres had the toughest day, finishing in 123rd place after a round of 84 (+12).

Sofía García and María José Marín appear to be the strongest contenders among the Latin players to make the cut and continue competing over the weekend.
