Mayakoba, Quintana Roo, January 27, 2026. – Lydia Ko, one of the most historic figures on the LPGA Tour and currently a member of the top ten in the world rankings, will compete in the second edition of the MÉXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, scheduled to take place from April 30 to May 3 this year at the El Camaleón Golf Course.

Ko will face Mexico’s Gaby López on her home turf, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between two LPGA stars. López is currently ranked 36th in the LPGA world rankings. Last season, she recorded seven top-10 finishes in 24 starts, with her best performance being a third-place finish at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican in mid-November, finishing four strokes behind the champion.

Following her best performance of the year at the Florida event, Gaby stated, “I’m still learning about myself. I think today and yesterday I felt much more comfortable with myself and my game, which is very important to me. When it feels like Thursday on a Sunday, I think those are positive emotions and thoughts, and I leave very proud,” she admitted.

In addition to Gaby López, fellow Mexicans Isabella Fierro and María Fassi will also compete in the tournament.

Mayakoba and El Camaleón boast a long history as pioneers in the growth of golf in Mexico, building a 20-year legacy as hosts of the PGA TOUR, as well as other events such as the LPGA in 2025, LIV Golf, AJGA, and LACC tournaments.

Lydia Ko, born in Seoul, South Korea, and a citizen of New Zealand, has amassed 23 LPGA titles, including three Major championships, and has earned USD 21.3 million in career prize money. Last year, she claimed the HSBC Women’s World Championship, and in 2024 she won the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games, an achievement that earned her induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame. She is the first golfer to be inducted since Lorena Ochoa in 2022.

Affectionately known as “Lyd,” she also won bronze at Tokyo 2020 and silver at Rio de Janeiro 2016. She is the only golfer in the modern era to have earned medals of all three colors at three different Olympic Games.

Last season, Ko competed in 16 events, making the cut in 14 of them. She recorded five top-10 finishes, including her victory at the HSBC Women’s World Championship.

On February 2, 2015, just one year after joining the Tour, Lydia reached the top of the world rankings at just 17 years and nine months old, becoming the youngest player—male or female—to achieve that milestone, a clear sign of her extraordinary talent.

Now 28 years old and once regarded as a prodigy, Lydia Ko is currently ranked sixth in the LPGA standings, where she stands as a global superstar set to shine on the Riviera Maya stage.

Tickets for the tournament are now on sale through boletomovil.com, giving golf fans the opportunity to secure their passes well in advance and plan their trip with ease.

In 2025, the MÉXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba marked the return of the LPGA to Mexico, in partnership with GS Sports Management. This year, increased spectator attendance is expected following the success of the inaugural edition, where Japan’s Chisato Iwai was crowned champion.
