Mayakoba, Quintana Roo, May 21, 2025 – One of the players who is attracting the most attention this week at the MEXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba is Charley Hull.
The Englishwoman, winner of two LPGA titles, The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America (2022) and the CME Group Tour Championship (2016), is currently ranked 15th. This is her second participation in Mexico; in 2017 she was in Mexico City, in the last edition of the Lorena Ochoa Match Play.
Having just arrived at Mayakoba on Tuesday night, Charley confessed that this Thursday she will play the first nine holes blind on the El Camaleón course, as she only had a chance to walk half of the golf course. “But I’m hoping my caddie will steer me in the right direction.”
Hull has been called a controversial player, but she considers herself rather authentic. “I’m just being myself, I think a lot of people today are not being themselves. They feel that because they’re in the public eye of golf and all that, they have a role to play. Well, I’m just living my life the way I want to live it, and just being myself.”
That’s why she’s not afraid to voice her disagreement with certain forms of golf training or smoke a cigarette in front of everyone if she feels like it.
For her, family support is critical. “I’m a person who loves being at home and I think the most important thing in life is family and that’s the main goal of everything; they always support me no matter what I do in life and as long as they love me, like support me in what I do and so on, I don’t care what anyone else thinks,” Hull said.
Charley said she was excited to be in the tournament, because Mexican food is her favorite and there are no Mexican restaurants in England, so she sees it as an ideal opportunity to taste the country’s gastronomy.
As for the El Camaleón course, he commented “I think it is very tight as there is not much margin for error, but it is very scoreable, but I think it will be a very good week to score points and a good week to raise confidence for the US Open.”
