Gaby López Finishes Eighth at LPGA’s Blue Bay Tournament

March 9, 2025 – Mexican golfer Gabriela López finished in eighth place at the 2025 LPGA Blue Bay tournament, held on Hainan Island, China, which was won by Japan’s Rio Takeda, who claimed her second LPGA title.

Gaby, who won this event back in 2018, carded a final-round 71 (1-under-par) to finish with a total score of 283, five under par, securing a Top 10 finish for the second consecutive week on the LPGA Tour. She ended the tournament 12 strokes behind the winner.

The Mexican player posted rounds of 69, 70, 73, and 71, earning $54,222 USD in prize money.

López, who will be the only Mexican player with a direct entry into the upcoming Riviera Maya Open at El Camaleón course in Mayakoba (May 22–25), finished tied for eighth alongside Japan’s Nasa Hataoka and Miyu Yamashita, and China’s Miranda Wang, all of whom also recorded a total score of 283.

Starting the final round in 11th place, Gabriela López delivered a solid performance on her back nine, recording one eagle, one bogey, and five pars, to close out her fourth tournament of the season.

Sunday’s action was dominated by 21-year-old Rio Takeda, who posted an impressive 64 (8-under-par), finishing at 17-under 271 over four rounds.

Takeda won by six strokes over Australia’s Minjee Lee, and by seven over fellow Japanese player Ayaka Furue.

Takeda earned her first LPGA title just four months ago by winning the Toto Japan Classic, where she prevailed in a dramatic six-hole sudden-death playoff.

With the conclusion of Blue Bay, the LPGA’s first Asian swing of the year comes to a close.

The next stop on the tour will be the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass, set to take place March 27–30 in Arizona, USA.
