THE WINNER OF THE Riviera Maya Open 2008

Daniel Im has an impressive Canadian Tour record: one tournament, one win.

Canadian Tour rookie Daniel Im made his first tour start a memorable one.

Im who turned professional last August and earned his card at the Tour's qualifying school in March, closed with a birdie at the final hole to shoot three-under 69 Sunday to pick up a one-shot win at the Riviera Maya Open to finish at 11-under 277.

The 2008 Iberostar Riviera Maya Open will be contested May 12-18 at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club part of the All Inclusive Luxury Iberostar resort located in the Riviera Maya.  Professional golfers from around the world will be on hand to compete for the $125,000.00 USD purse.
Iberostar Guests will have Free Access to The 2008 Canadian Professional Golf Tournament.
So come on out and see one of the finest professional golf events of the year. Another international golf event is fast approaching for the Mexican Caribbean.

Riviera Maya Open Highlights


Last year’s event ended in dramatic fashion as rookie Spencer Levin edged out tour veteran Derek Gillespie for the one shot victory.  Despite consecutive birdies on the final 3 holes Gillespie couldn’t hold off the charging Levin.
The win was the first on the Canadian Tour for Levin who turned pro in 2005.
The former number 2 ranked amateur in the world in 2004 went on to capture the Times Colonist Open the following week in Victoria, British Columbia and finished 2nd on the 2007 Canadian Tour money list.

The week will be filled with events starting with the exciting Monday Qualifier, an opportunity for local professionals and amateurs with a handicap of 6 or less to compete for the final 4 spots into the tournament.
Tuesday will be the kid’s clinic where local children will have the chance to pick up a few tips from the Pros and watch the practice round.
The Exotic Travel Club Pro-Am which will be conducted on Wednesday May 14th will be one of the highlights of the week long activities.  Amateurs will have the opportunity to play with one of the Tour’s top Professionals and compete for huge prizes.
The 72 tournament will begin on Thursday and finish Sunday May 18th.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $35 USD or $350 pesos includes all food and beverages.
